Child Safety & Safeguarding Framework

Rethink Australia Foundation Ltd is committed to the safety, protection, and wellbeing of all students and young people across our partner campuses, competitions, and educational programs.

Statutory Safeguarding Standard

National Child Safe Principles Alignment

Rethink Australia Foundation Ltd operates in alignment with the 10 National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. All personnel, mentors, workshop facilitators, and board directors adhere to the mandatory safeguarding protocols detailed below.

1. Mandatory Supervised School Environments

All physical campus activities, hardware installations, in-school recycling challenges, and waste auditing workshops are conducted strictly on school grounds under the direct supervision of credentialed school teaching staff, coordinators, or authorised school executives.

2. Privacy-First, Offline Edge Hardware Design

To protect student privacy and safety, Refugo AI sorting units execute all computer vision inferencing locally in on-device memory. The optical camera is enclosed within a secure downward-angled housing mechanically restricted to the bin aperture. It cannot capture student faces, surroundings, or personal identifiers. Zero biometric or personal data is ever collected, recorded, or transmitted to cloud servers.

3. Monitored Digital Networks & Data Integrity

Access to our interschool platform, companion web applications, and student communication channels is actively monitored by our governance team. We enforce strict codes of conduct to ensure all interactions remain respectful, safe, and focused entirely on environmental education and campaign telemetry.

4. Working With Children Checks (WWCC) & Vetting

All adult mentors, board directors, and technical personnel who attend school campuses or interact with student cohorts maintain active, verified Working With Children Checks (WWCC) and background checks in accordance with state and national statutory requirements.
